The outback outfitter
In 1932 the founder, Reginald Murray Williams, AO, CMG, began to make bush saddlery and boots for sale while camped at Nepabunna, in South Australia ’s remote Gammon Ranges .
Here R.M first met “ Dollar Mick Smith”, an itinerant saddler. The two men after much trial and error were able to fashion a pair of stockman’s riding boots. Finely crafted by a man who understood the hardship and dangers of life in the Australian outback, R.M’s boots, clothing and accessories were, as they are to this day, of the highest quality and comfort. Now 70 years on R.M.Williams has become world renowned for it’s boots, accessories and clothing and has over 20 stores in Australia , 2 in New Zealand , one in London and in New York and numerous stockists the world over. Yet it always remains passionate about the Australian bush heritage.
R.M. Williams is far and away the leading name in the Australian outback outfitting business with sales of over $ 50 million a year. R.M. Williams boots have led many Australians and overseas aficionados to nominate the company as “the best boot-makers” in the world.
Consumers today are just as brand-conscious when it comes to outback clothing as they are with any fashion purchase, and R.M.Williams signature boots, moleskins and bush shirts are the perennial “must-haves” of the outback outfitting sector.
